FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Answers You Need

WHAT IS COMPOST?

Compost is the decomposition of organic materials broken down into nutrient rich soil amendment. Essentially, compost is food for the soil.

WHY SHOULD I COMPOST?

Through the act of composting, you divert food waste from landfills, and feed the soil food web. Almost half of the food grown in U.S.A. is wasted and sent off to decompose in the landfill. Composting helps to return nutrients from food back to the earth.

WHAT CAN I PUT IN MY COMPOST?

General rule of thumb: if it grew in the ground, it can go in the compost bucket!

WHAT ABOUT BUGS AND PESTS?

We suggest freezing any food scraps to save yourself from odor and pests. We also have an Effective Microorganism available to help with your compost maintenance.

WHERE DO MY FOOD SCRAPS GO?

Queen of Compost has a team of volunteers to help pick up and process all food scraps at various local compost hubs in Ventura, California.

HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?

Queen of Compost offers multiple services and workshops to cater to your compost needs! If you're looking to get in the dirt with us, we are now accepting volunteers and interns for Fall 2019. Send an email to: info@queenofcompost.com

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COMPOST AND TRASH?

Trash goes to a landfill and gets buried in dirt. No food can grow there (that you'd wanna eat)! Compost is food for the soil, which regenerates the earth and pulls greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. Win win!!
